He put himself on paid leave and resigned a few months later. Hilaire will preside over the case from a courtroom in Strafford County Superior Court. Prosecutor Joe Fincham told St. Hilaire during a status conference Thursday morning that the trial is on track for May. The Attorney General's Office has reached out to Brave's defense about stipulations that could reduce the trial length from four weeks to one. Most of Thursday's hearing took place at the bench and was not heard by the public.
After the hearing, Fincham said Brave has until Feb. The state plans to bring in a number of witnesses from out of state, which would be an expensive undertaking if the case goes to trial, Fincham said.
Brave faces five counts of perjury for allegedly lying about the money he spent to rendezvous with a woman. In October, additional charges of perjury and making false statements to the court were filed in Rockingham County after Brave allegedly lied about living out of state and his need for a court-appointed lawyer on the original charges.
A dispositional conference scheduled earlier this week was rescheduled to Feb. The additional charges included a felony charge having to do with Brave telling the Rockingham Superior Court under oath that he lived at First St.
