I had the privilege of being in an great guild during AQ We were the first alliance guild on our server to defeat C'thun.
Many many many attempts I'm gonna have to agree with every other person here and say that C'thun was the most difficult boss to date. This difficulty also made it one of the most satisfying encounters.
It was quite a commitment to clear AQ40 in a week. Hard Part 1: Being in a guild that had 40 mostly competent raiders. Not only for the C'thun fight itself, but to clear the rest of AQ40 and just get there. It's hard enough just to find 10 competent players today. Hard Part 2: Figuring out what the hell is going on in this fight. Most bosses today are pretty well dissected online or in beta before the average guild tries to defeat the encounter.
Imagine knowing nothing and the raid getting insta-killed by some beam on the other side of the room as soon as you turn the corner. Hard Part 3: Coordination: Entering the room and spreading out perfectly.
All 40 of you had to do it perfectly or the eye beam would chain-kill your entire raid in 1 second. This fight was fairly long and everyone had to try their hardest just to stay alive. Pots, resistance gear, raid buffs, it was all used.
