Stunning, absolutely stunning. Grace Slick and Co. How could this album possibly be worth your time? Life is full of important questions — some of which even have answers — and personally I think some of the above questions bear exploring if you have any regard for Mr. Gilmour and his unique style of guitar playing.
Do we really need another live album with the same old Pink Floyd songs played the same old way? The answer to that question is no, of course not. This version of the song is far more personal, more intimate than any that had come before — rather than being a stadium-sized crowd pleaser, for the bulk of the song it is more of a tribute, more of a message to a long-lost friend.
Personally, I was delighted to see it on the tracklist, although I am afraid that only goes for those of us listening to the vinyl edition. He is far more successful remembering the words to the song on Gdansk , and the guitar work on this version is simply awesome.
The long solo that closes out this song is my personal favorite passage of lead guitar work I have ever heard in my life. It is the best and brightest moment of one of the greatest guitarist of our time, and if you care anything at all for guitar music, stop whatever you doing now and listen to it immediately.
It is lyrical, melodic, sharp, detailed, and textured in a way few guitar solos are. It is a remarkable example of music expressing emotions without using words.
