CONCORD β A man who brought an assault rifle into a Concord restaurant last week in an attempt to shoot its employees has been arrested after a days-long search that brought police to Southern California, Concord police said.
Cuevas tried to shoot the manager with an AR assault rifle after a confrontation, but the gun malfunctioned and Cuevas ran away, fleeing the scene in a gray Ford Fusion, police said. Cuevas attempted to clear the chamber, but ran from the restaurant after he was unsuccessful, police said.
As he did, employees began to flee the kitchen area as well. According to police, Cuevas is a member of a street gang based in Southern California but has East Bay subsets, including in Richmond, Concord and Brentwood. He was arrested early Tuesday.
Cuevas was on active probation at the time of his arrest, stemming from convictions for vandalism and gang activity.
