Two University of Chicago students were robbed at gunpoint on the Hyde Park campus in the early hours of Sunday morning. Three suspects approached the two victims on the sidewalk and demanded their property, the university said. Police said a group of two to four young men and teenagers and one female have approached their victims on foot and demanded their property. At least five incidents occurred in the Douglas and Oakland neighborhoods where thieves walked up to people, pointed a gun, and took off with their property.
Police said the number of robbers varies from one to five African American men wearing black clothing and ski masks. In one incident, the suspects forced a victim into a car and drove them to an ATM, forcing the victim to take out cash. The robbers were only described as wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks, and gloves. The incidents happened between Sept. During the evening and early morning hours.
