Already a blood donor? You can join the register when you next give blood. Your tissue type will then go onto a national database and we'll contact you if you're a match for a patient who needs stem cells. You only need to join one UK registry as we anonymously share matching information. Find out why height and weight is so important. We invite all male donors to join our stem cell register so long as they are aged 17 to 40 years old and join while giving blood.
Men who have sex with men and who have had the same partner for 3 months or more and meet our other eligibility criteria are able to give blood. Discover full details of the blood donation eligibility criteria. We take this information from your blood donation record. Discover more information on how blood donation records sex assigned at birth.
If you join our registry and your sex assigned at birth is not stored in your blood donation record, we will contact you to ask for this. This information will then be used to find a potential match for people needing treatment in the future. So if you do get the call, consider yourself lucky as you may get the chance to save someone's life. All information you provide to NHS Blood and Transplant is used in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation and all other relevant privacy and data protection laws.
Your details remain on the register until your 61st birthday. If you are no longer eligible to give blood, please let us know as you may need to be taken off the register. You can ask us to discard your DNA sample at any time by contacting us. Hi there, we see you're using OS , why not try our app? Skip to main content. Your account Appointments About you Log out.
