Sometimes it might mean missing part of an explanation about how to make sourdough bread, which I can definitely just Google later. In Death By Dumpling, Mr. Feng, owner of the bustling Asia Village marketplace, is found dead under very suspicious circumstances. She knows they must be missing something, and we do too: otherwise there would be no book. I was really surprised by a few of the reveals throughout this one. It was well-written and a lot of fun. Dim Sum of All Fears was up next and I just finished this one this morning.
I was happy to discover that this audiobook had the same excellent narrator, Cheryl May. I sat down to write this review and ended up checking out another of Emily St. The Glass Hotel is an astonishingly well-written book full of richly developed characters whose stories weave together in captivating ways.

The main story centers on married couple Jack and Elizabeth who met in the early 90s in college, in Chicago, where they have remained since. Both were strongly motivated to escape their childhood homes and not look back, the reasons for which being gradually revealed to the reader and shedding more and more light on who these people are and why they are the way they are. Elizabeth in particular devotes much of her time as a researcher probing the nature of what exactly love is, and this coupled with a tendency to over-intellectualize everything saddles her with more questions than answers.

But handle the latter with care: we deceive not just others but ourselves as well, intentionally and not, consciously and unconsciously. There are so many reasons why we deceive, some of which can be buried so deep that they only reveal themselves if we truly, honestly devote ourselves to looking. I felt like I could have known almost any character in this book quite personally.
