BCSO said they were arrested for failing to maintain records and regulations required by state law at the businesses. In July , new laws took effect concerning the records and retention periods of records that massage parlors must keep. These laws were put in place to help combat human trafficking and prostitution, and for the health and safety of patrons, officials wrote.
Several of the targeted parlors were found to be advertising on websites commonly linked to prostitution and human trafficking. In other cases, complaints were received pertaining to sexual activity taking place in the businesses, BCSO said. On February 5, the Criminal Investigations Division and the Florida Department of Health conducted inspections at nine local massage parlors. Authorities found violations at seven of the businesses, which triggered charges against the management of the businesses.

An Alabama grand jury has recommended that a city's police department be "immediately abolished," finding there is a "rampant culture of corruption," officials said Wednesday while announcing the indictment of five of the agency's officers, including its police chief. Five Hanceville police officers were arrested and charged amid a probe into the department, Cullman County District Attorney Champ Crocker said.
