Perhaps one of the most nerve-wracking, heart-stuttering things we do in life should we be so lucky is to ask the person we love to marry us. I did not think this question would ever come my way, or be mine to ask, so when my girlfriend, Nikki, and I realized we both wanted Forever, I wanted the proposal to be epic. My girlfriend had told me that she would love a Halloween wedding based on the ballroom scene from the David Bowie movie Labyrinth.
It was a movie we both loved. It appealed to our inner five-year-olds that still yearned for magic and fairies and epic quests. I made a plan, emailed several of our closest friends, told them my idea, and asked who wanted to help.
Everyone jumped to be included, and Operation Forever Shenanigans was born. Once everyone had their instructions, we took a moment to squeal with delight, hug, and snap a photo before everyone dispersed. Aaron, our designated photographer and chauffeur, went to my house. He rapped on the front door and was greeted by a surprised, but pleased, Nikki.
Aaron shrugged this off and held out the box I had given him. Inside was a dress as close as I could find to the one Sarah wore in the Labyrinth ballroom scene and a note.
Nikki squealed with delight and made off with her costume. Luckily, a cloak fixed that. At first, Nikki was unsure of what to do. The note had said to do what Sarah had done. When Sarah encountered the Worm, it had told her how to get into the labyrinth. This was the cue the Worm had been waiting for. Aaron helped her into his car, and off they went.
